Sun, holidays, a certain time in the year when one's heart lifts for absolutely no reason at all. Is it one's remembered youth? Or are we secretly still young at heart? While window shopping and looking at clothes sometimes you smile just at the joy of how a certain colour has been pitched. That is precisely how we felt when this collection had finally been selected and laid out on our storyboard.

Had we remembered a long forgotten picture of the young Brigitte Bardot wearing a gingham pink bikini on the beach at St Tropez? Or was it just a faded mixed up memory of spring flowers under an August sun? Whatever it was, it still is today; look around, there is not a young fashion house without its pinks and blues, joyous to behold. And here we are all laid out and prepared for the home, mouth wateringly delicious, fresh, vibrant, optimistic, in fact quite, young at heart.

Market Towns are synonymous with hustle and bustle, vibrant characters, colour and noise; the weekly markets themselves are as often as not the lifeblood of the town and its population. This dynamic collection is full of personality and mood as well.

We have taken a number of different designs and cascaded them into a waterfall of colour and character hopefully covering a majority of your home's needs; fashion has not gone unheeded either with a sharp intake of recent introductions we have noted this season. As with a majority of our collections the use of natural fibres is foremost and in these designs we have used exclusively cotton.

This collection of prints and weaves are offered in superb qualities of cotton. The floral designs are generously proportioned and have depth; our grape design is so life like it would be quite at home in any vineyard and looks stunning when draped.

The woven co-ordinated stripes broaden the ranges appeal still further. The designs on offer could grace any home modern or traditional because our studio has incorporated many current fashion colours. These fabrics can be used in conjunction with our new collection of wall coverings.

The Silk damask has enjoyed broad popularity since the early seventeenth century. Its use has been widespread especially in British Houses. In earlier times these fabrics were woven in 21 and 25 inch widths, today the typical width of cloth would be 54 inches or as more common 140 centimetres. This luxurious classic collection we hope brings together the traditions of a bygone era with the benefits of modern production techniques.

The limited use of cotton in three designs is there to strengthen the silk construction and give the cloth greater depth. Silk itself originated from China. With orchards of mulberry trees the cultivation of the silk worm and the production of silk was in full production around one thousand years BC. The beauty of silk was recognised early in history and was used by traders as a method of payment to those in power and by some as the settlement of a dowry and even for the payment of ransom.

Today silk is still part of the decorator's special exclusive vocabulary; a room using this wonderful fibre for decoration always seems to evoke that something extra that no other textile fibre has.

This luxurious collection of natural and off white sheers presents the interior designer with the perfect fabric for either discreet secondary curtains or a fabric treatment that allows the flat or house dweller maximum light with minimum intrusion.

This is a collection of inspired ideas rich in thought provoking innovation. Using linen to pass across the fabric's face the cloth takes on the appearance of a natural weave whilst retaining the benefits of a strong construction. This collection also works in total harmony with the Andorra Collection, woven natural cottons.

At Academy Clairtex we try to achieve a something very special in our fabric collections. In this collection colour is the dominant factor. However the style of weave and construction play an important role in the overall appearance. In this collection fabrics are both machine and hand-woven and the attraction of these cloths lie in their irregularity, this is part of their make up and character.

A book of natural cottons in an array of special designs and effects. Cotton is one of the most important fibres known to mankind. The history of cotton is full of myths and legend. The Greeks thought that the cotton plant had baby lambs on its branches. The explorer Sir John Manderville, who upon his return from India in 1350 developed this story, albeit terribly untrue, of how the cotton branches were so pliable that they bent down to allow the lambs to feed when hungry. Columbus found cotton in the West Indies in 1490. It was further developed in the New World during the seventeenth century and by the eighteenth century it was the very fuel of our industrial revolution; and the rest they say is history.

The majority of fibres used in this collection are cotton; additional fibres have only been used when necessary and needed to support the design's construction. The softness and handle of the fabrics have been achieved by using the finest yarns available and weaving to the highest standards.
